Ramsey & Bauer Law Office, built upon the foundation laid by Elizabeth Ramsey, has been operating since 1947. As a reputable law firm, we proudly serve clients in Allegan, Kalamazoo, Barry, and Van Buren counties. Our Story

At Ramsey & Bauer Law Office, located in Plainwell, MI, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and experienced legal services to our clients. Our firm has a rich history that began in 1947 when Elizabeth Ramsey, a trailblazing attorney, established the practice. Following in her aunt's footsteps, Elizabeth V. Bauer joined the firm in 1977, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer.

During her upbringing in Minneapolis, Elizabeth Bauer was greatly influenced by her aunt, Elizabeth Ramsey, after whom she was named. It was during a trial that Elizabeth attended with her aunt, due to a family emergency, that she discovered her passion for law. Inspired by her aunt's persuasive arguments on behalf of her clients, Elizabeth pursued her education at the University of Minnesota, where she earned a BA with a major in Anthropology and a minor in Child Psychology. She later obtained her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law and successfully passed the bar exams in both Minnesota and Michigan in 1974.

In 1977, Elizabeth's dream became a reality when she joined her aunt's law firm, Ramsey & Bauer Law Office. At that time, our firm proudly became the first all-female law firm in Michigan. Unfortunately, Elizabeth's aunt passed away in 1980, but her legacy and the values they shared continue to guide our practice.

Outside the office, Elizabeth is happily married to Thomas Bauer, whom she met on a blind date in 1970. The couple tied the knot three years later and now have two children, Nathan and Jessica. They also take delight in spending time with their three grandchildren. The Bauers are active members of First Baptist Church in Plainwell, where Elizabeth participates in the choir and Thomas leads small-group Bible studies in their home. Their faith has always played a significant role in their lives and their commitment to serving their community.

With over 35 years of experience, Elizabeth Bauer has successfully helped numerous clients navigate complex legal situations, ranging from divorce and custody battles to estate planning. Her caring nature and commitment to her clients' well-being make her a trusted attorney and counselor. Elizabeth firmly believes in giving her clients ample time to express their concerns, needs, and desires in order to develop comprehensive plans for the future.
